Theme Verse for the week of New Year's Eve (12/31):  Luke 2: 29-32

Relates to Discipleship Practice:  Jesus is Lord

Simeon praises God at the sight of the Messiah:

29 “Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace,
    according to your word;
30 for my eyes have seen your salvation,
31     which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles
    and for glory to your people Israel.”

Simeon had been promised that he would not die before he saw the Messiah come - and he recognizes that Jesus is that promised Messiah, the one who would save the people of Israel and the world.  How have we seen the light?  When have we seen God's salvation?

The Faith5 comes from Holding Your Family Together by Dr. Rich Melheim, so if you want even more detail, click this link for the handout, speak with Pastor Julie, or get a copy of the book.
