Quilt Tying Group

Are you free on the third Wednes of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to meet in privacy room F. 104? Can you tie a square knot? If so, please consider joining the Atonement quilt group. You do not have to commit to coming forever; we welcome folks who want to drop in and tie a knot or two or those who want to come and see what we do! Members of the group include Kay April, Angela Beam, Pat Bressler, Sue Colon, Kathryn Fellman, Mary Lou Hall, Faith Ann Jones, Janet Law, Marian Pounder, Marilyn Pounder, Barbara Stone, Jo Sturgis, and Sally Youngcourt. We assemble and knot quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Several of us (Kathryn, Marilyn, Jo, and Kay) sew the quilt tops and bottoms at home. At their meeting, the group assembles a sandwich of top, batting, and bottom. We mark the sites for knots using pins and a nifty frame made by Steve Fellman. We then make a knot with crochet cotton at each pin. Kathryn takes the knotted quilts home and finishes the edges. We welcome donations of fabric and sheets, which are used for the quilt backs. Recently the Fellmans delivered 65 quilts to the LWR InGathering at Bergstrasse Lutheran Church in Ephrata. Big trucks take the quilts to Maryland where they are sorted, packed, and shipped. The finished quilts are distributed throughout the world to people in crisis  situations. We all are grateful for the opportunity to help our neighbors in need.
