Family Promise

Welcoming families experiencing homelessness to Atonement as their home for a week.

Too many families experience homelessness.  We have a great resource in Berks County called Family Promise of Berks County which helps families experiencing homelessness for the first time with a place to stay, vocational and interview skills training, job hunting, and much more.  Family Promise partners with congregations to serve as host sites - which requires a lot of volunteer opportunities for meaningful interaction and care.  Please consider using your skills, time, and energy in serving these families.

Some of the many jobs:

  • Room setup
  • Grocery shopping
  • Overnight Host
  • Dinner and evening host
  • Laundry

Find out more by watching this 15 minute volunteer training video from Family Promise National. and check the Family Promise of Berks County website for more information and local training events.

We are going to start collecting Clearances for volunteers that interact with the families.  If you have clearances from helping with Sunday School or elsewhere, a copy for Dorothy DeLong, Family Promise Coordinator, would be lovely.  If you don't have clearances, it is free to get them online.  The Family Promise Clearances document explains how to get them and has links to the websites.  THANK YOU!

Please sign up to volunteer for a host week. Click the dates below to sign up as a volunteer.
